Don't you close that door.....

I sure wish I knew what the deal is with the bathroom door. If you have kids or a dog you know exactly what I'm talking about. Walk into the bathroom and shut the door behind you and you instantly have either your child or your dog, and sometimes both, scratching, sniffing or banging on it for admittance. I think that they honestly think there is a secret exit leading from the bathroom to either the backyard, or the land of Oz or maybe even Fantasyworld, where all kinds of fun things happen and they can't bear to miss out on it. No matter how quiet you are, they will awaken from a dead sleep to take up a vigil on the other side of the bathroom door as soon as they hear it click shut with you in there. Dogs, scratching and whining like you've left them forever with no food or water. Kids, crying and banging on the door like you've been gone for months when in reality its only been thirty seconds. When you finally open the door, your child will give you a dirty look and then look behind you into the bathroom like they expect to see the entire cast of The Lion King. The look immediately turns to suspicion when they cannot locate anything, not even a stray feather. They are sure you've hidden it all. Your dog, on the other hand, upon seeing you will leap for joy acting as if you've just returned from a six-month vacation. I have to admit, I frequently exit the bathroom with a smile on my face. It drives kids nuts. The dog just thinks I'm nuts.

Upon my complaining about my children standing outside the bathroom door crying and screaming for me while I took a shower (they were younger--I now live in relative peace), I was once told that hey, at least someone tries to knock down a door to get to you...

What a perspective. Never thought that way before.

Be well, Val.

OH MY GOSH! I never looked at it that way, but it is so true, so very very true. When they master the turn of the doorknob/handle, and you have jimmied the lock so they themselves don't lock themselves in at a certain given time, I wish there was a way to keep em out for a bit..after all, that is my book reading, magazine time away..

You are soooooo funny!!
Always,
Elizabeth

lol... I don't know what the bathroom fixation is. One of my nevvies used to stand on the other side of the door and say "Whatcha doin' Aunt fiwa?" You're right - it's like they think you're having a party in there without them.

I love that you're getting some fun out of it. :)

My fur-kids take it a step farther. There can be NO closed doors anywhere in the house. The humans movements must be monitered at all times.

oh yeah...that is true....Coffee Bean has finally gotten out of THAT habit...though she leaves the door open and sings while she's in there...

I LOVED this post...so very true. But you forgot kitties on that list, both of mine put their paws under the door when I am in the bathroom, it is so funny to watch - there are the kitty arms...swishing the floor. LOL

Have a good weekend. :)

It still happens. The kids are grown, the cats still whine and stick their paws under the door, the husband still thinks that there is something he has to have right now!

This made me smile and smile. Liv used to drive me insane with the same complaint. Once, she said, "Can you just hum so I know that you haven't disappeared?" Liv is nearly nine now, and barely notices when I am in the bathroom, but just the other day Bing asked me why I always hum when I am in the bathroom!

Yes, that would be Princess Gninski, to be sure.
Once I've sat down, I can hear her actually stand up next to the door as if she was going to open it.
She sniffs and snuffs, but, at least doesn't whine.

Thats so funny. I finally told the kids that if I'm in the bathroom they are to leave me alone unless someone is bleeding or otherwise injured. My cat however, I let her follow me in. I enjoy the company. Odd, huh?

This post sure struck a chord with me. My kids used to lie on the floor and try to see under the door. I didn't realize this until one day, Jay said, "I see your feet!"

Val, do you know what happened to Hensteeth? I went to her blog today and it's gone - I know you guys have some blog friends in common - so I thought maybe you or someone who reads your blog would know? Or maybe the lady herself will stop by....

Val, I tagged you for a meme on my site. It's rather introspective but doesn't require much "doing"...just some thought. Let me know if/when you might get around to it!

Be well, Val.

You mean those swinging things on the front of the bathroom are suppposed to close? I'm lucky if I can visit there and close the door when we have guests, the rest of the time... forget it!
