Always a snag.....

So more of the Furnace Fables.........the furnace guy said it would take about four hours to install it; it took nearly EIGHT. My house is insulated well so it only got down to 67 in here but I was getting a bit uncomfortable by the time they left. Furnace was running and kicking out some heat as they pulled out of the driveway. I sighed with relief too as it had been a hard day keeping a 3 year old entertained and out of their way.

I curled up with my book and patiently waited to feel warm again. After about 45 minutes I still felt cold so I checked the thermostat and it said.....67. I felt the heat registers....nothing. So I called the guy and he was home by then and probably in his jammies, slugging down a beer after an all day job like that.....but he said he'd be over to find out what was wrong.

Within a few minutes his partner that had helped him showed up. He had things up and running in just a few minutes. When asked what had been wrong, he just laughed and said, "sorry, human error". My son said it had something to do with too much water in somewhere and it had to be drained....after that it fired right up.

I'm just not that lucky.... so I know what happened....it was a reminder that the reason everything seemed to go ok with the installation, was only because the gremlins were busy effing up someone else's life and didn't have time to totally put the screws to me that day, so they just gave me a little kick to let me know they are still around and waiting. I figure they were messing with Soul, Jamie and Hensteeth about that time. Being a gremlin is hard work; lots to do this time of year. So far, so good......I have heat. Now, I'm wondering about the hot water heater. Ssshhhhh

When you said, "Shit Fire" in my blog comment, I knew we must be related! I hadn't heard that in a long time, but my mother used to say it all the time!

I would have said 4 hours sounded optimistic. That he got it done in 8 sounds about right. That he got his man back out there to fix it (which we would do in the same situation but with other folks can be an issue) I would be sure to talk him up to anyone that cared. That's a good Tech.

Glad your warm Love.

When was the last time you drained your water heater ?

Wow...67? That is what the temp is here when the heat is on and everything is working fine...

...maybe that's why I'm always so cold?

By the time it's all fixed, Spring will be a-knocking, won't it? ;)

Be well--and warm--Val.

It would be nice if things could go smoothly for once wouldn't it but you know it aint gonna happen. I'm glad the furnace man came right back and fixed it and that you are finally warm again. The only thing worse than being cold is being hot and I can tell you that the weather we are having is anything but Autumn like. Grrrr.

about the water heater and having to get it drained...
Good Idea.

I am not a plumber. I was an insulator for a quarter century, so, keeping warm IS my gig, but, I didn't know squat about plumbing....

Then one day, we noticed there was a definate shortage of hot water.
Way short.
But, at the time, we're broke. Paid out on bills trying to get head above water (I'll betcha most folks know that song) and so, we called the electric company.
It's a co-operative, so we think it can't bve too bad, eh?
And, it is great.
First he says, drain the water heater (which he does, and it isn't the water that has to be drained out that's bad. It's darn near a bucket of , I dunno, rust/iron/xcrumbly crap.....
He empties that out then tells us, most likely, the thing was NEVER cleaned out before, and in the long run, the damage done is irrepairable. That's the bad news.
The good news was if we would let them put on a fancy restrainer gizmo that wouldn't let the heater turn on during certain hours of the day that when it came time to replace the heater (which wasn't supposed to take long) we could get a free water heater.

That would be FREE as in it's actually cheaper for the co-operative to update us than have a worthless water heater gobbling up energy.

Boone County REMC is OK in my book. Here's a company that's more concerned with conservation of energy than in making bucks off their customers.

heehee... we keep our heater set to 62 in the winter. :)

I'm glad that whatever the problem was, they got it fixed that night, so you didn't have to sleep cold. That's the worst.

Hope the gremlins have gone on vacation now.
lovins!

You know what, outside is so warm and nice, but inside the house is bloody COLD even if I've it set at 65! I only need a layel of clothes outside, but need two indoor. Something is really wrong. I can't figure it out. I need a gnome to help me figure this out...

Val, I just thought of this on my drive home tonight - make sure HVAC guy got a permit if your area requies it. Lack of doing so can invalidate your homeowners policy if the dam thing ever created a fire. Don't mean to scare you but it's important and many contractors skip that part to cut costs. If he didn't do it there's really no harm no foul to him if it's reported and inspected. But you do need that signed off permit for butt coverage. sorry I didn't think of it sooner.

This is SO my life. It seems as if every time something goes wrong, it takes twice as long to fix it as promised and there is always a snag, a glitch that makes it cost twice as much.

I just cringe when anything around breaks down....

I'm spreading it around 'cause it has a very calming effect on a person. Nice video for when it feels like you're being pushed into the world, as it were.

Course, I suspect, what with being this close, you're having the same weather as us? They were sentencing us to a doomsday weekend and 6 degrees....
now it's more like the teens and warming on the week.

Clowns keep yellin' "the sky is falling, the sky is falling!"
Then nothing.

Hope you're at least enjoying some of that Sun! Don't forget your sunscreen!

(Waves to Soul) Hi Soul! Yes I was going to ask you the same thing Val. Hope the furnace is doing it's job and you haven't frozen to death. Stay warm or come to Australia where you are sure to sizzle.
