Not ready for this.....

Early Monday morning....oh about 2 or so....I was awakened by thunder and lightning. I snuggled back under the covers and fell back asleep and when I awoke at 6 to get ready for work, it was raining hard. It did let up for a while so I could let the dog out. And I actually was able to drive to work during the respite. But the entire day was very dark, dreary and rainy. Plus that, we had wind advisories up as it was gusting to 50 MPH. What a miserable day and it got worse as the day wore on. By the time I got out at 5, the wind was cold and I was very happy to walk into my house that night.

I put on a pot of coffee right away as it sounded really good. The wind was really whipping things around out there and we had periods of pouring rain. Later, in my jammies, as I snuggled down in my couch with a good book, my coffee and the dog cuddled next to me, I couldn't help but wonder about all the people who are homeless. I always think about them more in inclement weather. I am so fortunate to have a warm, comfortable home and I give thanks for that fact on a daily basis. My little dog lives in more comfort than the homeless.

The rain kept up all night long and I woke up to more of the same today. It got down to the 40's last night and today the high did manage to get to 55 but tonight its going into the lower 40's again. We've had periods of heavy rain on and off through-out the day and I'm grateful that today was a day off for me and I didn't have to get out in it. It just seems too soon to be this cold.

I guess what I'm trying to convey here is that no matter what....no matter how disgusted you get or how angry you may get at certain situations, you have to stop and think about your blessings. Yes, I've worked the majority of my life to obtain my things but so have a lot of people....and because of current economic conditions, they've lost what they once had. My prayers are focused on those people; to help them and to help our leaders find a solution to this horrible problem. We all know someone who is in a bad situation right now. I've never, in my life, seen things as bad as they are and never have I seen so many empty homes. I hope someone comes up with a plan.....one that will work and one that won't take more away from those of us who are barely keeping our heads above water.....and I think that's most of us right now. I certainly wish I had the solution but it isn't going to hurt to pray and to pray often about it. Remember......'there but for the grace of God, go I'. Take care and God bless, my friends.

All day rain.....

Today is a relaxing day. Its very dark and the rain is gently and continuously coming down. We need it so I'm not complaining. We did have a picnic planned but its been moved inside....we may end up postponing it until tomorrow, I'm not sure yet. Either way we'll have a good time and good food.

Not a lot has happened and I still say that's good. I need these down times to recharge my batteries. Its been extra busy at work with a lot of people gone on vacations. I had to have another condenser put in my car because the AC kept giving me warm air even though I would go have more freon added. So far its ok but its only been a few days. I still don't have my new computer in my possession, although my guy is working on it. This is a busy time of year for him and since I'm not totally without a computer, he is not hurrying with the new one. He does have all the parts....its just when he gets around to putting them all together. Hopefully before the end of this month I'll be all set.

I have met the love of my grandson's life. I was ok until I saw the piercing just under her bottom lip. WHY would anyone think that adds to their charm? I know.....I know....I'm an old fuddy duddy....my thinking is not progressive....I'm not up with the times. Humph....sorry but I can't see where putting holes in your face is progressive. And yes....I have pierced ears and have had them since I was a youngster myself....but somehow it just seems different. Sigh...maybe its not. Maybe its ME. Maybe I should just shut my mouth. HA!

So, I guess I will go refill my coffee mug and settle back with my book. I have about 400 pages to go and then I can start on the next one in my huge stack of books to be read. I think I have 26 books in that stack so I can safely say that I have fallen behind in my reading. The other ones in the stack are not so hefty as the one I'm reading now (1,000 pages) so it should go faster.

Oh....yes I wanted to tell you. I found another dead squirrel in my yard but this one was not next to the transformer nor did it cause me any electrical problems. I don't know what happened to the little guy. So I left him there until I could get out to the garage and find a shovel to bury him with...about 2 days. Yeah, I know...that's yucky, but I was putting it off, hoping that I could con someone else into doing that for me. Anyway when I went out there, armed with shovel, he was gone! Distasteful as it sounds....I'm wondering if the hawk took him. What do you think? If so, I guess that's a good point about having them nearby.....they make a good clean-up crew.

Enjoy your weekend. We have rain forecast for tomorrow too so its likely to be a quiet one for me.

A relaxing day.....

This morning I awoke to the sound of thunder rumbling..... not crashing, just rumbling. It was such a peaceful feeling to lay there and listen to it and then hear the raindrops lightly tapping at the window. We've had so many bright sunny days in a row, this came as a very welcome respite. The flowers were spreading their petals and drinking in the life giving moisture. They seemed to double the intensity of their vibrant hues, everything has turned greener, more fragrant. How I love summer!!

When I opened up the door to the deck to let the dog out the temperature felt tropical....very warm and humid. It was a nice change. The kind of day that's perfect to sit out on a screened in porch with a favorite beverage and enjoy a book or just sit and listen to the peaceful sounds of nature. My dog doesn't appreciate rain and I have to get her all excited to go outside by telling her to "watch those squirrels". She'll then charge out of the door and be halfway into the yard before she realizes that its raining....to her dismay. Since she's out there, she will do her business and then immediately demand re-entry into the house, giving me that look that says "yeah, you did it again...fooled me....you won't get away with it next time". But I always do, unless its absolutely pouring....then she wants no part of it and will not go outside until it stops. At that point the squirrels could cart the house away and she could care less, as long as she stays dry. Dogs can be so funny. She's a constant source of amusement for me.

Nothing much new has happened in my little corner of the world and you know what.....that's good! It gives me a break from the drama and trauma that can sometimes knock on my door. My grandson has a girlfriend and it seems serious. We rarely see him anymore and my daughter is feeling the empty nest blues. I told her to remember back when she was his age; that he's happy and she's a nice girl and her family loves him and she should be proud that she's done such a good job with him that his girlfriend's parents even approve. All their lives we nurture and train our children to be independent and when they start to spread their wings, we feel like jerking them back because we don't think they're ready. I told her to be happy for him....better he be like this than an anti-social recluse with lots of issues. She felt better at the end of our conversation (that's what moms are for, you know). I'm not one to sugar coat things....I tell it like it is and it usually works. She has another one to raise....her little girl. I'm sure she will do just as good of a job raising her but it will be twice as hard to let go of a daughter so she can spread her wings and fly when it comes time. I know it was for me. I'm not gonna tell her that just yet.

So I am enjoying this peaceful day while it lasts. Tonight the rain is supposed to move on and we will back to hot and sunny for a few more days....and that's all right too. Enjoy your weekend.
