Finally, a job......

Well, one person's bad luck is a fortunate turn of events for my son. He's been without work for months and months. His unemployment was going to run out soon and things looked bleak. Then he got a phone call from an old friend, someone he used to work with many years ago.

Seems as though, as his old friend told him, that a certain guy just got fired because of having failed a random drug test while employed at a certain company. My son heard about it before it was really public knowledge and he went there and put in his application. He had put in his app many months before as this is the type of work he is skilled in.....but they had hundreds of applications and probably pitched them since at that time they needed no one. He was hired on the spot. They are probably breathing a sigh of relief to obtain an experienced worker and he's breathing a sigh of relief to be part of the work force again.

So thanks to a good friend and the bad choices made by someone else, he's once again employed. Its a dirty, hard job with no luxuries. In the winter, its worse than ever.....but its a job and he's elated. He once again feels like he's a contributing member of society. At least he doesn't have a job as bad as t-paper in the cartoon, but its a dirty, strenuous and dangerous profession...... he mounts tires on vehicles and that includes semi's. A lot of the work is done outside in the elements. Some of these tires are bigger than I am tall. You can understand why the company would have to be reassured that their employees are thinking with a clear mind.....can't have the wheels coming off while going 80 down the expressway, now can we.

Hopefully this will be a good year for me and my family.

It is so good to hear success stories in this economy. I am even more proud that he is ambitious enough to go after the job instead of living of the government. Send best wishes to your son from me, if you will.

Praise the Lord! He got a job!

My middle son just moved to Florida because the job situation was SO bad in Chicagoland.

Praying for good things for all of you :)

You both must be so relieved and am thankful that your son got a job. It is soul destroying when you don't want to live off the government and truly want to be a valuable part of society and it just doesn't work out for you.

Tell him I am proud of him for hanging in there and not giving up. That takes a lot of schutzpah right there.

That is great news, Charlotte. :)

And yes, I am hoping and praying that this WILL be a good year, for you and your family, and for the rest of us. It seems there have been so many that have had it so rough. It's our turn, now.

Big hugs. :)

Since my son is also looking to get a job, I can totally relate. He has just completed year 1 of his College program and needs a coop, no luck yet.

So I feel your relief. Congrats to your son. Blessings to the friend that gave him the tip because in these times, it's not what you know anymore, but definitely who you know.

I often forget how fortunate I am to have my job. Then I read this and I'm reminded. I'm thrilled for your son. Really, really.

Good news indeed. Thank heaven someone is willing to do work that is dirty, strenuous, and dangerous---we depend on so many people like that.

I love your little cartoon...worst job in the world, indeed! (snort!)

I was just watching the PBS series "This Emotional Life." So much of our life is determined by our social web, and the fact that one friend was so willing to keep an eye open for your son goes to show that in just yet another example. Congratulations to you all!

Be well, Val.

Yay! Good news for your son. This is a hard time to be finding a job anywhere! #1 Child graduated with a BS in Math and is working at a convenience store.

Congratulations to your son. It is very depressing being without work or prospects for work. Even though it is hard it is better than sitting without anything... and it may lead to something else later.
I just wanted to stop by and thank you for visiting my blog. I have enjoyed my time here. Your blog is an enjoyable read.

I am so happy for him. Things are so bad right now. I hear they are getting slowly better but I am still getting hundreds of resumes for part time positions. It is horrible.

What a bonehead to take chances with a random drug testing policy. People can be so foolish.

Well that is fantastic news - Congrats to your son. And to you - one less thing to have to worry about. I'm doing good - same old same old here - nothing newsy to report. Unless you want to hear about the racoon in the hen house this morning - one less chicken in the world today. And the little B%#$&%D came into the mud room thru Lilly's door! - Like I said - nothing new. Hope your doing good sweetie!

New Year...New surprises!!
How wonderful for your Son, and for the whole family! Brightened my day to read that he was successful in this "rat race" of job searching! I am pleased to see that his friend was there to lend him a "heads up", so to speak!
Yes, let's make this year one of the BEST that we have had for a while!!
Question?...Am I the only one that calls you Val?...I am embarrassed! You are Charlotte?...I guess that I just assumed that it was Val!...Oops!
Hugs, and thanx for the blog visits!

So many of those applications were filled out in the hopes that NO job would be offered and interfere with the free handouts. On the other hand, there were people honestly willing to do anything in order to feel productive. Your son was the right one to hire.

It is great to hear that he found a job. My dirty job this morning has been going down the list to figure out who is in line for layoffs. We are headed for a dark cloud.
