Wasted time.....

I have invested the time to read a 566 page book called The Story of Edgar Sawtelle, as mentioned in a previous post. I finished that book today and had to really control an overwhelming impulse to throw the book across the room. After investing all that time, I feel that one is entitled to have at least a good feeling.....or something pleasant, if not thought provoking.....when you finish a book. Not this senseless mind numbing....WTF feeling.

Its rare that I've been so disappointed in a book, although I'll have to admit there have been a few in my lifetime. I would NEVER recommend this particular book to anyone. It wasn't that terrific to start with....but I kept having faith that it would get better. By the last 3 or 4 chapters it all went to hell. If you still want to read it....be forewarned!

Needless to say, I am now in a horrible mood. I need to find something funny to cheer me up....maybe I can find a light-hearted movie to lose myself in.

Anyway....I'm sorry I've been away for so long. I still can't believe how fast time passes. Wish I could say I was on a cruise or something, but I've been working, either at home or at my paid job. I'll return in a bit with more general bitching....after I make myself a drink. HA

I have been debating about whether I wanted to read that book or not. I saw the Oprah show where everyone was raving about it, but I didn't feel drawn to it.

So it was interesting to read your post, but I can't say that I won't give in to my curiosity and read it at some point.

I hope your mood picked up!

Well, at least your reading books. I can't remember the last time I picked up a book Val. I'm too glued to this computer all the time....or watching a movie.

Good to see you back sweetie...

Well that's one book I won't read.
If I start a book and don't like it right off I don't finish it. There are just too many books that I want to read. :-)
Right now I'm reading Espresso Tales by Alexander McCall Smith. It's the second in a series and it's about the people who live in an apartment building in Edinburg, Scotland. It's an entertaining easy read. Very Good.

I hate that feeling - when you finish a book and want to throw it across the room. I haven't liked very many of Oprah's book club books, actually.

Take care of you. :)

I'm a bit like you Val and persevere even when a book doesn't grab me right off. I'm always convinced it will get better and usually it does. How irritating that on this occasion it was a complete waste of time.

Good to see you back.

Do you remember I read that book? There was so much about it that I loved. I think I read it in 3 days. Parts of it were confusing, others I'll remember for a very long time, like Edgar's time in the woods with the dogs, hungry and alone. I loved the man that took them in. I, like you, hated the end. I don't know why it ended like it did. Not that every book has to have a happy ending, but this one was, like you said, rushed and disappointing. Still, I enjoyed the journey.
