Holy Smokes.....

That's an odd saying, isn't it? But it basically sums up my shock. Where in the world did the time go? I have been in my own little world and also have visited many places via my books and TV programs. While my son was living here (ONE WHOLE YEAR!), I rarely got the chance to read because he interrupted me so often. You know, he has ADHD...he's always had it but way back when he was first starting school, they didn't have a name for it. He was just labeled as being "difficult" and "hyper" and was put into special classes at school for "emotionally impaired". I would never recommend those classes for any child. And I don't want to get started talking about all the trauma we went through during his school years. It was terrible and he ended up being cheated out of an education and other classes in which he could have excelled....like music and art, both of which he has natural talent. All I can say is that they've come a long way in helping these kids and hopefully more and more of them are now able to take advantage of a good education and any electives they are interested in.

But anyway, he still suffers from the same symptoms that he's had all his life.....and he won't take any medication for it. So, if you're around him, you have to be prepared to be subjected to lots of activity, almost non-stop talking and having every nerve in your body standing at attention on top of your skin.

So, I've been enjoying my "peace and quiet" when I'm not working outside the home. I have read quite a few books...I'm reading The Story of Edgar Sawtelle right now and, 100 pages into it, its holding my attention. How can you NOT like a book that involves dogs!!! I've also started watching TV again. I may become a fan of FRINGE, a new series that has a female as the main character (FBI) who is uncovering many government secrets. I caught a showing of HEROES, which I had never seen before. It held my interest but I will admit that it was confusing. I'm not sure who the good guys/girls are or who the bad ones are at this point.

How fast the evening flies when you're looking at a TV program that holds your interest....or reading a good book. After supper I would sit down to do one or the other and before I knew it, it was bedtime....and no time for computer entries. I did manage to read your blogs at work though so I have been keeping up pretty good except for the last 3 days....I've been off work and busy around home. I must say the weather is beautiful here and its giving me energy I thought I had lost forever. I work every day next week so my work here at home will have to be put on the back burner....at my age its hard to accomplish both things and do them well.

So happy to see you post Hon. I didn't know about son having ADHD. It kinda makes sense of the 'self medicating' to bad he won't take real meds. It made me think of the kids I went to school with who had simular issues. How badly they were treated by other kids and how poorly they were served by the system. Very sad. I've not been on line much at home in the evenings, suffering from a mild funk and haven't felt much like it. It seems to have lifted this week - must be something to do with the sun, moon & starts as we just got into 'real' Fall. I'll be looking for ya sweets !

Don't worry Val,
it's hard to know who the good and bad guys are, even if you watched it from the start. Glad you're relaxing!

There's nothing better than taking the time to do something you really like Val....and I'm so glad you did. That back burner positon gets a little old sometimes; and God knows us Moms are relegated to it for far too long...even if it IS by our choosing.

Don't work too hard next week sweetie...hope you can still find some time for yourself. I'm finding that's more and more important as I get older. Hugs, Joy

It's been a while since I've read a book that I hated to put down. Most of the ones I read are so-so to "pretty good". Mom and I like "The Closer" too, and I can't wait for "24" to come back!!

I'm so glad you're enjoying having your home to yourself again. I saw that Cheryl recommended that book too - I will put it on my list of things to read.

Take care of you - miss you -

Ah...HEROES. I have watched the show from episode one and am so crazy about it that I was practically drooling when it finally came back on. Last year, I was so annoyed with that writer's strike....I felt cheated out of my Heroes addiction.

I went to Oprah's bookclub site yesterday and read the message boards about The Story of Edgar....and interviews with the author. I'm so excited she chose the book. I think I read it in 3 days. I've taped all the episodes of Fringe. I haven't watched it but hope it's a keeper because of Joshua. I loved him in Dawson's. There's not enough time to read, watch tv and blog. I watched Grays Anatomy while reading blogs. Multi-tasking as always.

I am happy that you are getting some very deserved peace and quiet. I know how hard that can be sometimes, ugh. You sound good and happy...and I think it's awesome. I hope your weekend has been great. Hugs, good friend. :)

wow, it works!
(alt +three (from the calculator pad, probably way over on the right) is where the heart came from)

Glad for your nice weather, it's been cooler than I like, here.
On the other hand, if you wander over to my blog, and you're looking for a giggle (or even a guffaw!) then at the top of the sidebar is something called First Farm and Weather Report....
Usually it'll be me having at comedy some.
('some' as in, sometimes it's funny and sometimes it isn't)

This is a very busy weekend for me, though, so, the best I could do was drop in videos from youtube....
you know...
stuff that'll REALLY interest folks.
Like opera.

Hhmmm, maybe it isn't too late to send your son to swimming classes? Well, Michael Phelps has ADHD, so his mom sent him to swimming lessons, and look at him now, breaking so many swimming records :)
