Thunderstorms.....

This is going to be a real quickie. Yesterday we really got slammed with a line of thunderstorms and all the neat things that go along with them. At least we didn't get any uprooted trees or trees on houses in my neighborhood but a mile away they did. However we were inconvenienced with NO POWER. Oh how I hate that. It was in the 90's and my house was nice and cool and did stay that way for quite a while but we were without power for 25 hours and so things began to heat up. I have a generator and after so many hours I decided we would have to start it up because it didn't look like the power was coming back on anytime soon. According to the battery operated little TV I have, the power company was stating that power would be restored by late Wednesday evening. I feel very fortunate that we have it back tonight. There are 100,000 people in my area without power now.
So, since its thundering again, I'm going to get off the computer and hope for the best....that the fragile newly fixed lines won't succumb to a tree branch or high winds.
Isn't it something how....when you're out of power....everything you can think of to do involves electricity. I did read for a while until it got too dark to do so.
So, I'll be back soon....hopefully with some stories to tell.

Oh - scary stuff. Take care of yourself. I hope you don't lose power again, it's too hot in your neck of the woods for that.

I'll be thinking about you.
lovins & hugs,

Gee stay safe Val. I'm glad I don't live there, I am absolutely terrified of storms, even your garden variety ordinary kind.

When we had our extraordinary record breaking heatwave last summer, we lost power for 4 hours and it was 110 degrees outside and pretty much the same temp inside. it was brutal.

Don't forget to come back and let us know you're okay.

Hi there Val: It's been horrid here--we're sweltering in 110 degree heat indices. We had the thunderstorms AND tornados last week...the children in school all had to do the drill as the tornado warning went right overhead. It was pretty scary and a lot of damage was done, power knocked out, etc. with winds alone. We're actually hoping for some rain today to get us off this 4-day long heat advisory.

And it's not even August. Geez Louise! 16 days until MY vacation...I can't wait!

It's a good thing to have the generator. I know a few people around here who do, and they use it a lot. I was fortunately able to store some food for friends who were knocked out of power for a few days (and in this heat!) in my fridge and freezer--but what a pain for those who have to deal with it all.

Thinking of you...be well and stay safe, Val.

Glad you made it through without any problems aside from no electricity. There's nothing like a power outage to make you appreciate what we take for granted every day. :-)

25 hours! geez ..I would probably go nuts.

We have never had our power gone (in this condo) for more than a few hours . I often wonder what we would do if that happened because this place is all electric.

This year has been a bad one all around in the weather department.

Take care :)

I find it amazing, too, that living without power for awhile is so HARD. Pluse, I am so stupid, I go to the fridge or the microwave and expect it it operate, even though I know there is no power. We do so many things by remote, I think.

Anyway, hope your life is going well, and I'm happy that your power is back on.

Hugs and smiles, friend. :)

Glad to hear you all are safe! I got some awesome pictures of a storm rolling in that we had over the weekend and I came inside and 30 seconds later our tornado sirens went off for the 2nd time in like 3 days. *sigh* It's going to be a LONG summer.

I LOVE thunder storms until power starts going out or peole get hurt... but when there's a big CRACK/KABOOM from the sky, I'm energized. That said, I live in the Rain Forest so we just get a misting... rarely anything so lively.

I hope you have lots of good things to read.

Can't wait for your stories Val. I'm one of those strange people who just LOVE thunderstorms. Of course, it's another thing when you're stuck without electricity and it really makes everything inconvenient...that's not so great. But I really do love those big bad storms...and I've written several posts about my love of them. Good luck with everything...

I hate losing power, like everyone else. I'm sorry you had to suffer through it for so many hours. Especially in this heat. I hope you don't lose it again anytime soon. Storms are great and amazing, except for when they're destructive and take away our routines.

Hope the weather is calming down. Being without power in the summer is not fun! How can we keep the ice cream frozen? ha!

Take good care Val!
