Well, this is just plain creepy.....

To add an update to the previous post.....the dead squirrel. The next morning, after my coffee, I went outside armed with a plastic garbage bag to dispose of said squirrel. It was a task that I was not looking forward to, but it had to be done.

I went to the base of the pole where the squirrel had been and it was........(gasp)....gone!

This is the second time this has happened now during the night. ( *a few weeks ago I found a dead squirrel by the AC unit outside. When I went to get it to dispose of it the next morning....it was gone! I think this is squirrel mating season, they are fighting with each other like crazy right now. He was most likely the loser. I doubt his family came and got the body to give him a decent burial, even though I'd rather think of it in those terms.)

Which reminds me of something. One day I was watching an ant carrying another ant, that was dead. He trudged across my driveway, carrying his load, which had to weigh as much as he did. I thought to myself....isn't that special. He's taking his fallen comrade back home. Wow. I watched as he took him to an anthill and down the hole. It was a couple days later, talking with someone else who apparently has a lot more intelligence than I, that I learned that ants are cannibals and he was taking him home all right....he was SUPPER!

Ok, back to the original storyline here...........

There is something creepy out there roaming around my yard looking for something dead for.......food.

Either that or the hawk has been helping himself as soon as its daylight. But this squirrel was in a heavily leafed area....mostly hidden from a sky view.

I've got to quit watching so many spooky movies....my imagination is getting the best of me in thinking of scenarios.

Shudder........this just makes me very uncomfortable although I do appreciate the disposal help. I've got my own National Geographic series going on in my own back yard. Nature's clean-up.

Speaking of that.....I really miss Meerkat Manor. Any of you ever look at that? It was the cutest show that I became quite addicted to. I suppose they ran out of story lines....there's only so much a Meerkat family can do. Hope your day is a good one.

Ahhhh, Val~!! When I came to the page and saw the Halloween pic, I thought, "Oh, what now has happened to Val?"...
Well, let's do THIS scenario...
What if the electric shock only stunned the poor critter, and he just up and WALKED away...?
But, I suppose reality would lean toward some critter coming by, a stray dog, and carrying the carcass away for his pantry~! What a nightmare, you and these squirrels~! Seems that the ASPCA should make the Power Company do something about the zappings that happen...
Have a GREAT, safe, (no zaps) wonderful day~!!

and the ants? OMG!!! I didn't know that, and like you when I've seen the fella's carrying their pals back home, I thought, wow, ants are decent insects..never again. :)

Creepy indeed. You are such a brave and capable woman, no way on earth I would touch a dead anything.

My youngest loved Meerkat Manor. I never did get to see it.

I hope your weekend is awesome, friend. Hugs. :)

Ha ha, Val my sweet friend. I am sorry for laughing, bu the way you have relayed this saga has just made me giggle. Barbecued squirrel? I think it is a delicacy in some parts of North America isn't it? I bet that hawk had a nice meal. Their vision is extraordinary, and he probably appreciated the nice electrical smoky overtones. I hope they get the squirrel guard up. You don't need to be groping around in the dark only to fall on your rear. They must be in cahoots with the post office in terms of efficiency.
Sometimes do you feel like that ant being dragged down the hole by the system? Once you are down there, you will be taken care of with great effectiveness, I suspect.

A big hug to you..

Bing used to love meerkat manor. I would sit there with her and just be....befuddled....could never figure out the pull of it. I thought it was boring, but then I grew up on a farm.

We ate squirrel WIWAK (when I was a kid), but I did not steal your carcass. Yes, I'm betting that his family retrieved and resuscitated him. Oh, yeah! You probably have one or more o'possums. They are pretty good at cleaning up the carion.

Maybe the guy next door carried it away? Or it was a meal for some hungry critter? I can't believe you have this ongoing problem with the power company. Strange but true and so inconvenient and cruel.

I'm glad that I'm not the only one with a nature program going on in my backyard!
